Brief Description:  Delams and Filler Primer

I grabbed a quarter and started tapping. All this tapping found me 8 delaminations across the wing, most of which were smaller than the quarter, but if I was going to fix 1 I was going to fix all of them. I drilled out the hole to 3/16" and used a small syringe to inject pure epoxy into the void. I then laid up peel ply over the voids. After enough cure I removed the peel ply and began prepping for an experiment. I have this High Build Epoxy Primer called TOUGH STUFF by Seahawk Paints and have read good reviews about it. What I wanted to find out is how much filler and sanding did I need before I could add the primer. I wanted to know how deep a gap could the high build primer fill without being excessive. Now because the previous builder had forgotten an important layup schedule in the wing, I had to do it for him last year. This created a high spot so Filler was going to be needed in this area. I applied almost 3 layers of Z-grip to this area and still have low spots so instead of mixing a fourth I started applying the epoxy primer.
There are 2 things that I find bizaare about this primer. 1. It says the pot life is 5 hours and I believe it, however when rolling it on, it becomes tacky or half way dry after a few seconds. The problem with this is that when I go over it a second time with the roller it just pulls it off the substraight. Not cool. However if I let it stand and flash for 30 minutes, this occures less. Still I don't like something setting up that fast and I'm sure it's made this way because it's for Boats that people don't like having to pull out of the water for days and refinish out in the weather.
Tomorrow I will be testing its sandability as well as its cure to the glass and hopefully it won't chip off. Either way I at least of a solid color now that will show me obvious low and high spots as I start block sanding.
