Brief Description:  Blessing and Curse

Church this morning meant only a half day at the hangar and it ended up being just enough time before having to quit. I tell ya what, I am absolutely IN LOVE with Gary Hall's Teflon Hinge replacement for these canards. I totally butchered the first one trying to slide it in dry, so I'm REALLY glad that he sends a lot of extra teflon for guys like me. I cut a second one and sprayed EVERYTHING with Silicone and the teflon slid in like Butter! Then sliding in the hinge pin was a snap and I'm telling you they will NOT come out without force so that means SUPER flush ends on both hinge halves making the hinge pins totally invisible. LOVE IT!
Then after all that Joy came a real PAIN. The previous builder....(here we go again)... did a real Hack job on the aileron control hardware. Unfortunately, I have no replacement tubing for the torque tube so I'm forced to use the one I have. The rubber boot on one of the U-Joints was also torn which means a new one has to be drilled and installed and I DON'T have my drill press at the hangar so it's a real PIA to get things accurate. I installed the pushrods and hardware that I finished up last night and found them to be Almost perfect in length which is a huge relief. However, with the new Cozy Girl parts, some new problems came up. First, the area under one of the HM4 Bearings needed to be cleared out for clearances, then the new torque tube rods wouldn't fit inside the wing root bearings! GAHHH! Tried for 20 minutes to push them through with no luck. I'll have to take 220 grit to the rods and turn them down until they slide through. Looks like I'll be doing that first thing tomorrow. My goal is to have all the Heat barrier in place, all Teflon Hinges done, and hardware installed by tomorrow night. Big goal, but I'm a big builder. LOL. all 140lbs.
