I'm pretty sure that this has been the longest standing decision that has needed to be made so far. 2+ years into the build and I'm finally content with my solution. Here's the deal; I have spent hours sanding and shaping the stick grips to only end up feeling like I could never get them "just right." Even when I thought I had, a few days later I'd grab the grip and be unhappy again. So today I was spending time with a neighbor who is Native American and a craftsman. He showed me the bows and knives he's made and every one of them had handles wrapped in leather. BINGO! I bought the teakwood grips for the reason that they absorb sweat. But SO DOES real leather. I headed over to Hobby Lobby and found some small real leather strips that were PERFECT for wrapping the grips with. Now for $100, my neighbor is going to stamp a Native Feather into the leather, cut and stich them onto both grips in anyway I see fit for the "perfect" feel I never got before. Boy that slim layer of leather is also softer and will absorb some vibration too. I'm considering a center strip on the quadrant knob as well for matching them all up, but I don't want to cover up that beautiful teak either....Jury's out for now. More pics of the leather wraps soon!
