This project looks simple but was one of the longest to complete to date. I really didn't like Rutan's idea of using "safety wire" to attach the spring and cable assembly. I just thought it was a sloppy way of making a connection. Some of the expensive titanium and composite hardware from my RC days came to mind and it's REALLY paying off! This setup allows a VERY quick release via pin for canard removal but also adds the ability to adjust the tension of each spring individually making a very smooth and accurate trim lever. Not to mention the ease of tightening the wire when things break in and start to wear. Now I will begin fine tuning it but that will have to wait for tomorrow. Finally I set up the throw template and verified I was getting the 15 degrees up and 30 degrees down that I need for the Roncz. Interesting though when I use a digital level it says the template is off by a few degrees. I think I'll trust the technology :) This portion of the project took over 8 hours to design the link system and install the canard.
