Brief Description:  Painting the plates

The Avionics shop at my airport has had tremendous success with SEM Trim Black spray paint for all their panel work. At $15 a can I am hoping for the same success. It's funny, but at this point I seriously have spent close to $200 on spray paints trying to find that MAGIC can. LOL. Well I can say this: This spray paint is incredible. I decided not to use it on anything except for the trim wheel but only because I want a perfect match in sheen for all the panel work and Nimbus uses a black with a little more gloss than I get from this. Either way check this out, I can heat up the part being sprayed, shoot it with 2 coats of this stuff within 5 minutes and get a SUPER smooth finish that I can start sanding after 10 minutes. NO JOKE, sands perfectly well after 10 MINUTES! SO here was my delemna; I will be constantly using my pitch trim wheel which means at SOME point the paint will either fade or be rubbed off and re-painting it would be major surgery. Long story short, I found that I could sand off the paint where my fingers would be 99% of the time and still avoid spending 100 years trying to polish the whole wheel. I came up with a really cool 2 tone look by simply sanding the wheel with 3000 grit. I'm in love :)
Next I also learned that baking the parts at 170 degrees for 30 minutes really helps the paint adhere so I decided to lay down 1 more coat on the engine mount and bake it along with all the other panels going in the airplane. I'm very pleased with how everything turned out and I'm a huge believer in baking the paint for a better, more durable finish.
