Brief Description:  ELT ground plane

As discussed in an earlier post today, I decided the ELT antenna and ground plane with work fabulous right above the speed brake actuator. In fact, the cover I made for it will be extended up and cover the antenna very nicely.
First I needed to drill out the holes and find how deep the cables would recess into my back! I was able to solve this issue in the "new seat back" post. After confirming the location, I started marking out the shape of the ground plane on a piece of .020 aluminum sheet. The manufacturer recommends a minimum of 300sq in. of ground plane so I bumped it up to 400 with a 20x20 square. Getting everything drilled, cut and fitted took some time but she is all ready to be installed and layed up under 1 Ply Bid. This of course does not include the area that the antenna will be touching the plane.
