Brief Description:  Fuel fittings and BID strips

There are many ways to skin a cat, but this one goes to Burt Rutan. I've seen several ways that people attempt to get a perfect and Clean bond between the baffles and upper skin of the strake but I really like the simplicity of Rutans directions in the plans. All this being said, I do find one fault in his direction and believe I can fix it. The plans say to add a 1/2" pile of flox on top of the baffles before pressing the top skin into place, however, odds are, a lot of flox will go oozing out and drip down the baffle sides. To fix this I placed aluminum tape along every baffle at a 45 degree angle to the baffles, creating a trench for that extra Flox to end up instead of inside the tank. After removing the top skin, any low spots or voids will be obvious and can easily be filled prior to the final install. The Bid strips will also be a flexible 1 Ply and act as a flap, if you will, that will have constant pressure up towards the top skin helping to create that perfect seal.
The other couple hours in the shop were spent mapping out the rest of the fuel system, selecting the right fittings and placing a big order with Aircraft Spruce.
