Brief Description:  Water Drain location

With the ULPower engine only weighing 220lbs, chances are I will be able to park without lowering the nose completely. This however remains an assumption. Therefore I have determined that in choosing the location for the lowest point in the fuel system I'd run a couple tests. I first lowered the nose all the way to the ground, filled the forward strake with as much water as it would hold before spilliing over the leading edge, then took a blue sharpie and outlined the puddle of water exposing roughly the lowest point in the fuel system. I then raised the nosed to the more desired parking position in favor of a forward CG, and outlined the new puddle boundries with Red Sharpie.
After removing the water and analyzing the puddle rings, I marked a spot that lies between both the red and blue and decided this will be where my drain valve will be. After installing the hardpoint I will be adding a micro shelf just forward of the valve guaranteeing that the low spot won't move forward of the valve.
I then used a step drill and opened the bottom of the strake enough to allow a socket to fit and mounted the valve assembly into the strake. I took exact depth measurements in order to make sure the valve would install totally flush with the lower skin and not protrude as shown in the plans. No drag here!
I then added a 1/8" NPT plug into the threads to the same depth of the valve, laid up some 5 minute micro and installed the hardpoint. Later, EZpoxy Flox and Glass will cover the 5 minute.
stay tuned!
