Brief Description:  Nutplates and flox

Now that I have the pants lined up in every angle, the plans instruct me to install #8 nutplates in 7 locations around the pant halves. I saw an RV7 the other day that used smaller #6 screws and it looked so clean that I'm taking that route as well. No big screws :) After riveting all the nutplates I dry fitted the halves and found them to line up really well. Now the plans state to grease both hardpoint attach locations and bolts and pile up dry flox onto just the hardpoint itself. Then install the pants EXACTLY as they will be installed from now on and gently screw them into place. This squeezes the flox out onto the mounting locations and after cure will create a nice flat area on the pant side. This is to ensure no warping will happen when tightening the pants to the gear. I was also able to find that the hole in the aft pant halves where the nail went through should sit right at 7.5" above the ground. This put both pants at 1.5 degrees down for low drag at cruise speeds.
The next step will be to bond the leg fairings in place and lay up several plies of glass that will be the 3rd attach point for the pants.
