Brief Description:  Prepping the wings for white

The decision to apply white primer to my wings was made a long time ago, but these summer temps and places to go made it imperative that I get it done asap. This morning i had to make the decision of spraying or rolling the primer so to test it out, I rolled 3 coats of highly thinned TP Tools primer onto one of the prop blades of my Hercules prop. The prop needs re-finishing anyways, so it was the perfect platform. After applying 3 coats it became obvious that I was not going to get a smooth surface by rolling. BUT, the surface texture may still be easily sanded so I let it cure for 3 hours while I headed to the airport.
When I arrived at the airport I started prepping the top of the wings and winglets for new white primer. This required removing the N Numbers and hunting down any delams or loose primer. Just 4 areas of concern, one of which was a delamination which was fixed per plans. I then took 80 grit on my 3M Stik It sanding block and began blocking down the top of the left wing. I don't have any intention to prime the bottom of the wings as this is just going to get me by for the summer. This fall I will decide if I'm going to keep these wings or build a new set. Until then, white on the top and grey on the bottom.
Back at home finally, I took a sanding sponge and a piece of 360 grit paper and began sanding the prop. The rough texture sanded pretty quickly giving me the green light to go ahead and roll primer vs. spray. Tomorrow will be a day of elbow grease and hopes of rolling on the first round of primer. I've got 2 more gallons on order and I'm sure I will need them for full coverage. :)
