Brief Description:  4 hour engine maintenance and a sad surprise

I was notified by the airport staff that a new seal coat will be laid down on the ramp in front of my hangar this week which will keep me from pulling the airplane out of the hangar for 48 hrs when it's done. Since I couldn't fly today I decided to just go ahead and do my 5hr maintenance now even though she's only got 4 hrs. on her. Well, it's a good thing I did because I found that the valve lashes were again, out of spec so all the valves were adjusted again. I also found a couple new oil leaks, one of which has me shaking my head. UL Power quality control really needs an overhaul! This time, Cylinder #2 had a hole in it. When UL drilled and tapped the hole inside the rocker cover for a small bolt, they just kept on drilling and went all the way through the head. So here I had an oil leak that was slow enough to be safe, but instantly qualified as manufacture defect so Ray has ordered me a new head. I'm fully aware that the new head most likely won't show up until Christmas of 2025, so in the meantime I'll find a high temp gasket sealant and try to plug the hole and use it as a thread sealer as well. I think I should be ok until the new head arrives, but it's definitely a band aid fix. Whoopy! So tomorrow night, after the pavement crew leaves, I'll get this taken care of, install a new oil filter and 4 more quarts of breakin oil. I also will be able to install the new oil temp sensor. and she should be ready to fly again on thursday as long as I'm cleared to roll out of the hangar.
