Brief Description:  oh i'm having a blast

So I've been tempted lately to decide on my finished color before replacing the canard so that I can finish it before it goes back on the bird. Not sure how realistic this is, but I've started having fun with it. Today I spent all day researching a paint system that could meet the following criteria:

1. I can do it without professional help
2. Cost affective
3. durable
4. easy to repair
5. resistant to fuels, oils and has good UV protection.

Finding a paint that meets all 5 is NOT easy, but I decided to get close by trying some Rustoleum paint. Idealy I would roll on a perfect job, but those are rare cases. The second best thing is spraying. Rustoleum doesn't have many colors to pick from in a quart or gallon but they do in spray cans. how viable is it to paint the whole plane that way i have no clue, so I tried on my cowling in an area that needs repair anyways. I tried Rustoleums Satin Nickel Metallic. I applied 4 coats all 5 minutes apart and WOW does it look good! Can't believe it really. I'll be wet sanding it tomorrow to see how it handles it and go from there. I've heard silver metallic is THE most difficult to spray correctly and for a beginner, this is pretty dang amazing. Could this be it? We shall see.
