Brief Description: Wing Tip #6 - Cutting wing tip flange
I started cutting off the flanges tonight using the Dremel and the cutting tool. I would have much rather used the pneumatic cut-off wheel as it is much more robust than the battery operated Dremel, but the blade width would destroy most of the flange and I need to use it for a spacer under the P4 hinge so that the hinges are on the same plane. But first, I cut the aileron-to-wing tip gap at the aft end of the wing tip...top and bottom. I had already measured and marked the cut line when the wingtip was on the wing, so it was ready to be cut.
Starting with the top of the right tip, the Dremel seems to cut better against the blade rotation, which means the dust and debris is flying up towards my face. There wasn't really any getting around this as I had to keep my eyes on the cut to keep it straight, but I did put on the breathing mask and the safety glasses. The band on my face shield broke some time ago and due to COVID - they are all but impossible to get now. I still have one on backorder.
Well I cut for as long as the small Dremel battery would allow and got all of the top flange cut and about half of the bottom flange done... so just under half way there. More tomorrow.
