I installed the red and the white LED pilot lights today... and not without some issues. But they are in now and that's what is important. These lights are much brighter and more robust, and I am happy that I can move on to other items now.
These lights are all hidden at or below the shoulder level of the pilot. There will be another set of red/white LEDs that go under the glareshield, and those lights will light the panel - if needed.
