Brief Description:  Remove the LR3C Voltage Regulators

I purchased my Alternator Controller/Regulators from B&C Specialty Products (BandC.com). Since I have a primary and backup alternator, I have two LR3C regulators.  In an email discussion with my buddy Bob, I found out that B&C will upgrade the LR3C’s to LR3D’s for FREE.

This upgrade provides for two benefits:  they changed the circuitry to enable an LED light to be used for the warning indicator and they also changed the overvoltage circuit parameters to keep the field breaker from having false trips. Since the airplane isn’t flying yet, there is no downtime with getting the upgrade done – so now is the time!

The LR3D is three devices in one. First, the LR3D operates as a quiet, linear regulator, generating no audio or radio noise (in contrast to switching-type regulators). Second, it provides a vital safeguard for your aircraft electrical system with a solid-state, crowbar over-voltage protection circuit. And third, the LR3D Controller functions as an important low-voltage monitoring and warning system. (from their website)

I really like doing business with Nathan and the B&C team! Nathan is the president and talked me through a lot of my electrical architecture and answered many questions via many phone calls :).  I highly recommend them!
