Brief Description: Steel Nuts
No, I am not bragging... These steel nuts were on backorder for months - I actually thought I cancelled the order, but I guess not since they just showed up in the mail a few days ago. Steel has a much higher melting temperature than aluminum and for that reason - steel is a better material to use on the hot side of the firewall. I had already switched out the fuel fitting and the smoke oil fitting and when the nuts that hold these fittings on were on backorder - I figured I really didn't need them. I still have the aluminum washer on both fittings, and I am ok with that, because if something bad happens in the engine compartment - I will be putting her down - immediately.
So, for both fittings, I uninstalled the fitting, washer and aluminum nuts, scuffed, cleaned and primed the aluminum washers and then re-assembled the steel fittings, washers, and steel nuts. I didn't count the primer drying time.
