Brief Description:  Gap 26 heated pitot test

With the panel info sent off to Bob, I can get some miscellaneous stuff done now. So first off, I wired up my Garmin GAP 26 heated pitot and tested it. The heaters (there are 2) were on for 30 minutes and although the pitot tube gets very hot, the upper ends of the tubing stays cool to the touch. The lower ends of the tubing does get too hot to hold. Garmin requires a minimum of 8" of tubing so that the plastic tubing that is connected does not melt. I did have some of the plastic tubing that I will be using inserted, but it was past the 8" mark and was cool to the touch as were the fittings that transition from metal tubing to plastic tubing. The beginning amp draw when I turned it on was 3.9A but after 30 minutes, it was down to 2.5A - interesting. It could be my aux power supply...will have to check it with the multimeter.

I also pulled off the bottom skin and looked at my wiring options for the heated pitot. I will likely go with the knife splice connectors since I might need to pull the pitot out and a big bulky connector will not fit thru the pitot mast.
