Disassembled the gear (removed the brakes and wheels) and reviewed the components and directions carefully to avoid a repeat of yesterday's error. The brake caliper is definitely intented to be on the AFT side of the axle, with the larger end of the fairing bracket to the front.
During the review, I realized that I had mis-used the bolt intented for the outboard fairing bracket, (drilled head for the safety wire). Removed and replaced with the proper AN4-5A on the axle/brake flange -- and found my supplies empty. Another Vans order building.
After carefully re-assembling both R & L gear, I couldn't resist a look at the wheel fairing to 'look ahead' at the issues to expect. Obvious that this fiberglass work will be time-consuming, and require a lot of 'fitting' --- and fiddling. Numerous web sites have documented the techniques of alignment and drilling, so I will proceed with attaching the nutplates on the brackets, and will be able to align the fiberglass with backlighting when it is time to drill.
In the meantime, the fiberglaas goes back in the bin.
