Brief Description:  Part Prep for the brake

Some plywood is required for the actuator hardpoint (LB19) and another for where the hinge attaches to the fuselage (LB23). There are different sizes given in the Varieze plans and the Cozy IV. There is also a plans chage for the VE because of failures where they used much weaker foam for the core.

Having read all these I made the brake hardpoint (LB19) longer per the CP's but didn't do the taper that was called out. This isn't used in the Cozy plans. The Cozy being a larger aircraft my thinking is that anything that works on this will be OK for a Long-EZ and there are a lot of flying Cozy's with no problems I have seen about this area of the brake.

The second pic shows a notch for the hinge to fit into per the Cozy plans. I made LB19, the hinge support, a similar width to the Cozy. The Vari has this a lot wider but I can't see the point if it works on the Cozy. The strength comes from the glass to glass bond over LB19 that joins in part to the fuselage floor.

The last pic is a dry fit of LB19 and the hinge. About now I'm seeing that I should have made the forward joggle in the brake shape which is mostly later removed. To fix this I'll trim about .1" from the hinge side edge so it clears the bottom of the fuselage when it opens. Not a big problem at all and something to do when it comes to a final fit of the brake.
