Brief Description:  Crankshaft checkout

I was going to send-off my crankshaft to a place in Tulsa for dimension and integrity checks, which would be done by the Magnaflux process. Speaking with them on the phone, I was somewhat concerned, because they were saying most cranks don't survive a prop strike.

I got to thinking, so checked around our local area for a testing lab. I found one 15 mins from the house, a shop who does contract work for Boeing, Lockheed, Parker, and other factories in the area. I called them, and the owner said that a few times a year a private pilot will bring him some airplane parts, so he was familiar with how to test them.

Bottom line: testing to the points identified in the Continental overhaul manual, there were no issues, no cracks, nor longitudinal lines evidenced by the testing. Good to go!
