Brief Description:  Workbench Construction

Hallelujah! #2 son sold his car, so my hobby car can now be stored in his garage, freeing up shop space for my build. The other day I spent some time planning-out dimensions of the cross members, etc for both the upper and lower levels. The table is 12x4' in size. Lower level will have cross members every 47" or so since there's no strength need. Upper level I want pretty flat and sturdy, so there will be 7 cross members to allow for spacing every 2 feet. Scrounged up some scrap pallet material from my prior Sonex workbench (it pays to hang onto this stuff!) but still came up a bit short. Scrounged and found enough 4' wide pieces to fill in the remaining gap.

Once the lower deck was installed, I loaded it with the flat parts and skins that were previously stood on edge leaning on the Porsche(!). I'll be able to slide them out from one end when needed, but figured it would be easier to lay them flat with no upper cross members in place.

Tomorrow I'll install the crossmembers and the particle board top level. I hope someone got me the black cleco's for Christmas!! I have plenty of silver and copper, but the Zenith uses a lot of 5/32" rivets, requiring a whole 'nuther set of bigger clecos.
