Brief Description:  parts cleaning

Brutally cold here in DFW for the next 5-6 days. Like close to 10 deg. Nothing for you yankees but highly unusual for this area when the coldest part of the year is around 25 deg.

Got rid of my propane heater thiis year when I got a portable air conditioner. Worked great in cooling. It includes a heat pump function. When mild temps ike 40-45, it'll heat you right out of the garage! However, heat pumps work by taking any heat in the air and extracting it. When there's no heat, they don't produce a lot of heat! It was 45 deg in the garage when I got up this AM. By 1 PM the heat pump had it up to 48 deg. Finally after supper it was 52, so I went out and spent a few minutes getting things ready. I'm almost ready to install the cylinders, but that will take some time and I just didn't have it today.

I had the pushrod cups soaking in solvent overnight, so cleaned them up. Found a container so set the pushrods and rocker arms to solvent-soak for tomorrow.

Spent some time with the left magneto to see where the TDC location was. There's a hole in the top of the mag into which you insert a 1/16" rod and gently rotate the gear. When it gets to the TDC location, the pin falls into a "hole" inside the distributor (well, you catch it before it goes all the way...). Not as clear as you'd think. Found a few spots that dropped a bit, so may call Slick to find out more.
