Brief Description: Continuation of Horiz Stab Service Builletin
The third part of the service bulletin mentioned yesterday is the addition of elevator hinge extensions. The elevator hinge did not extend the entire distance of the horizontal stabilizer, so these just were add-on pieces to effectively give the builder a full-length hine.
The hardest part was figuring out where to cut, for what length, to allow space for both the long 6' and short 9" hinge pins to be installed and removed. I finally developed my concept and cut the extension pieces to the length I wanted. Then it was a simple task to drill-out the old A4 rivets from the trailing edge of the horizontal stab, inserting the new extensions between the spar and skin, and drilling thru the skin into the new extensions. Once cleco'd, I then had to up-drill the hinge halves to A5 rivet size to match the exsiting hinge pin installation. Riveted and cleaned up.
