Brief Description:  Panel repairs

Finished checking out the radio; my handheld unit could not be heard by the radio, but I could hear DFW appraoch, so I was pretty sure the radio was fine. Turns out the NiMH battery in the handheld was bad. Had enough power to receive just fine, and you could hear the click of the key in transmit, but no voice. Dug out my AA battery pack backup, put in fresh batteries, and all worked well.

Soldered a wire to the backlight control pin at the radio connector, then spliced it in with the power input line. Now I have backlight frequencies. I was thrilled that the stick grip harness appears to be wired correctly as well, since the freq swap and mem chnl buttons work just fine (as well as the PTT).

Tried 3 different changes to the transponder harness; still won't power up the way I want. In my 172, when I turned on the avionics bus, the transponder would power up. In this plane, I turn on the xpnder switch, but still have to then press the "on" button on the front of the transponder. Still searching for an answer.
