Brief Description:  Finished Preliminary Riveting Horiz Stab Skeleton

Well, after a good night's rest, it wasn't so bad today, compared with yesterday.

Obtained an electric cutoff tool; that will trim the bracket centered in the pic below. Thank You Harbor Freight. I also purchased some new airhose (shorter length; the 50' stuff I had was just getting tangled all over...). Since I have to wait for new, trimmed, riveter tips (see yesterday), I got out my old riveter. Checked it out, refilled with fresh oil, and went to town. Of course, the puny extra compressor I bought a few months ago isn't up to the job. Really don't want to bring my big 25 gal unit in from the shop, so I'm going to swap out the puny one with an old one I kept in my hangar that's large enough to get the job done.

As the title says, I'm pretty much done with initial riveting of the horizontal stabilizer skeleton. There are certain pieces that must wait until later on; primarily the side of the rear spar that is shown resting on the table in the pic. The skeleton is inverted at this point, so the part resting on the table is actually the top surface of the stab. The doubler section of L angle must be drilled-out to rivet-ready size once the elevator hinge is initially fit. A few rivets on the top surface (relative to the pic) have to be drilled-out to #20 size; as noted yesterday, I'm waiting on new drill bits to do this. The skeleton ribs and skins use #30 holes and rivets, but where they mate with the doubler angle they must be up-drilled to #20, so just have to wait.
