Brief Description: Began building a doubler for the VOR antenna
OK, I have decided to mount a cat-whisker VOR/GS/LOC antenna to the under side of my tailcone for maximu performance. I decided that I needed to install a doubler inorder to properly mount the antenna. This would be my first totally self designed and fabicrated part. I began by cutting out an oversized working piece of 2024 .040. It's hard to see in the 2nd picture, but after I took the necessary measurements, I transferred them to the sheet in the form of layout lines. I then trimmed the peice down to slightly oversize and then bent the flanges in the 24" brake that came with my tool kit. I thought I'd never use the damn thing, but it came in handy for this project. Not included in this is the hours I spent reading my sheet metal handbook learning how to prooperly layout the bendlines, setback, and other stuff. Old heads can probably just do this by sight, but I took the formal route and did the math. Results are in the next log entry.
