Brief Description:  Ordered Zip Tips Premier Winglets

I was hoping that Aveo Engineering would offer special pricing for AirVenture on the Zip Tips, but instead they offered a free tail strobe light. Not sure I'll use it since the tips have rear position lighting built in. Oh well, I pulled the trigger and ordered a pair of the Premier Winglets. Price is $3635 plus $300 shipping to California from Florida with a 6-8 week lead time. It should arrive mid to late September.

Aveo doesn't claim any performance benefits from the winglets, but I'm actually more interested in the aesthetics of it. They just look cool.

Interestingly enough, Vans announced at Oshkosh the AeroLED was now offering a very similar winglet for the RV-14/14A. The price is slightly cheaper (~$300 less) if you order it now, but I assume it will go up when that pricing expires. It's also made from carbon fiber instead of fiberglass.

It looks like the only advantage (besides the intro pricing) is a 3 lb/side weight savings. One disadvantage is that some people mount an antenna in the tips. You can't do that with carbon fiber.

Bottom line, I'm sure the product is good but the Aveo tips has the advantage of going through some revisions to improve them. Reports from customers are pretty good and I want to keep my options open on the antenna install, so I went with Aveo.

The freebie is a tail strobe light. I haven't decided if I'll use it or not.
