Brief Description:  Test methods for removing the unwanted dimples on

Some rivet holes along the belly could not be accessed for dimpling as the holes were under the elevator control rod cover. The holes in the lower skin, port side, were all dimpled, and some of these holes had to be riveted to the belly nto holes that could not be dimpled.

I've been doing some tests on how to deal with the dimples that shouldn't be there.

Photo #1 shows a summary. On the left is a countersunk rivet, a dimpled upper skin and a flush (undimpled) lower skin.; second from left is a 5/32" dome. Third from left is a 1/8" large flange rivet (from the plastic flap control bering) and the last is a standard 1/8" dome rivet. The dimpled holes in the upper piece for both 1/8" rivets were flattened out with a rivet squeezer.

The other photos:
- #2 summary straight on
- #3 summary profile, -the three dome rivets had good closure. Obviously the countersunk one didn't.
