Brief Description: Communications radio installation
After having completed the mount for the audio panel I reinstalled the transponder mount tray in the panel and secured the audio panel. Then I began wiring the audio panel, speaker, Garmin SL-40 communications radio, headphone and microphone jacks and the audio output from the Advanced Flight Systems AOA audio output. Once this was complete I tested the system by turning on the power. The radio powered up and the AFS AOA conducted its power up test. I plugged in my headset to listen to the radio; tuning in Toronto Pearson International tower. At first everything was far too loud. The radio had a default set where the volume knob was defaulted off. Entering the radio menu I set the volume to be adjustable with the volume knob. The AFS AOA CPU cover had to be removed to gain access to the audio pot to reduce the volume for it. I powered down and powered up again to initiate the AFS AOA power up test. The volume was adjusted satisfactorily.
