Brief Description:  Aileron Controls 1

I installed the pulleys and bearings of the wing aileron controls. I had ordered the Wicks hardware kit, but every bolt required wasn't in the kit, or I couldn't find it. In addition, there are some substantive differences between the plans and the Avipro kit. I'll detail those changes for my own use in the future and any interested party.

First of all, my plans are number 930. Perhaps later plans have these corrections built in. A blow-by-blow account and significant differences are:

The Aileron Strut Attach Pulley used by Avipro is the MS-20220-2, which requires a 5/16 inch drill hole in the Aileron Cable Pulley Bracket, unlike the 1/4 inch called out in my plans. My Avipro bracket required drilling out to 5/16 inch. The bolt which fits this construct is an AN5-13. I used a 6-32 inch screw and locknut to secure the Avipro cable guard.

The Avipro Aileron Pushrod (and Flap Pushrod, as well), are wider than called out in my plans; they are threaded 5/16-24 to fit an Aurora GMM-3M-570, instead of 1/4-28. I misread the specifications of the the bearings, and I thought they required drilling the corresponding Aileron Hinge hole to 1/4 inch instead of the 3/16 inch called out in the plans. That turns out to be wrong, so I'll need an addition bushing to fit the 3/16 inch bearing hole to the 1/4 inch hinge holes (one was already required to match up the depth of the pushrod bearings to those of the aileron support bearings). An AN-3-14 bolt was used to secure the pushrod, as well as an AN470-3 washer to aid in pushrod retention in the event of bearing failure.

A MS-24566-4B pulley was used as the Aileron Drive Linkage Pulley, instead of the AN210-4A called out in the plans. An AN4-25 bolt was used, in addition to the Avipro cable guard and a hose clamp to secure same.

The bellcrank bolt required was an AN4-26, as well as two AN470-3 washers and two thin washers to aid in pushrod retention in the event of bearing failure.

On a positive note, the Avipro cable guards fit well!
