Thanks for having a look at my Experimental Aircraft building project. I purchased a partially built kit for Christmas 2013. The is a Zodiac CH 601 XLB TD, manufactured by Zenith Aircraft Company in the USA. There are over 500 flying aircraft of this design. The kit was originally purchased in 2006 and came to me with the fuselage, engine and tail together. Overall it is approximately at similar stage to a quick build kit.
In some ways it looks almost finished but there is still a lot to do. This includes installing the B upgrade to the fuselage, building the canopy, building the wings with B upgrade, verify all the existing work against the plans and all those finishing details. The Jabiru 3300 is a new 8 year old engine so it will need inspection and possible overhaul. I also want to upgrading my X-Plane flight simulator to closely replicate the cockpit layout.
I have very much appreciated the help and support I have received at the start of this journey. Alan from Zenair Australia has been very helpful answering my many questions and putting me in touch with Jeff who is also building a Zodiac just down the road which is fantastic. Joining the SAAA has also been very helpful and encouraging.
After getting my workshop sorted out for aircraft building I kicked off construction with gathering of our local Canberra chapter of the SAAA. A good way to start with some useful advice and encouragement from a group of like passioned people.
I completed the aircraft in August 2017 after three and half years building. First flight was conducted at Temora NSW Australia (YTEM) and I have since put 100 hours on the aircraft up to Feb 2018.
