I am the owner of Jetbeetle USA, LLC. I purchased this 98% completed Monerai glider as a simple low cost platform to demonstrate the airworthiness of our turbojet engine products, specifically the H90 and H160 turbojet engines. This kit, serial #343, was purchased in 1981 and built by David F. McInnis and was completed by the Wilmington NC, EAA chapter 297 around 1988. According to the logs the aircraft has never flown. In 2004 the aircraft was purchased by Marek Szymak, but again, was trailered and never flown. I purchased this glider for $4500 with the intention of converting this Monerai-S (unpowered) into the Monerai-P (powered), but with a turbojet engine instead of the Zenoah direct drive piston engine that was originally used with this aircraft.
I have added 2 aluminum wing tanks that measure 3" diameter by 8' in length. A combination of welding, water jet, cnc machining, and laser cutting for the rubber gasket were used to make these highly customized fuel tanks. Inside the glider are a pair of header tanks that receive fuel from the wing tanks. In addition to adding wing tanks I also performed extensive welding to fabricate a center control stick and new seating. Furthermore added an electrical system, fabricated a new instrument panel and added a lightening system and radio to the aircraft.
I had the great privilege of meeting David F. McInnis at our exhibit #653 during Airventure 2014. He any many other former Monerai owners visited our exhibit to see the aircraft. I also had an opportunity to speak with John Monnett about the 7 different engines he tested on the aircraft during its production.
Status: Conducting Test Flights. 9h 20m unpowered flight testing remains before engine testing.
