Yes, I'm building an airplane that people can sit in and fly through the air. It will have an engine and everything!
While that's probably the intro to most kit builder websites you look at, it is the answer to the question one most often receives when you tell them you are building an airplane in your garage. People are often quite incredulous, bordering on skeptical.
My wife and I decided (yes, she agreed to this) after we visited Oshkosh for the first time that we might was well jump in and get started. Just one more reason why Oshkosh is the greatest place on earth. We took a couple aircraft rides, talked to people at many of the booths, and did a lot of dreaming. After getting a ride in an RV-10 (this airplanes big brother), sitting in an RV-9 (same fueselage, bigger wings) we decided the RV-7 was the best fit for us.
The Vans RV-7 is a two-seat, low wing, aerobatic aircraft that will take my wife and I, with 100 lbs of bags at almost 200 mph (170kts) about 1,000 miles.
This is a great project because I like to work with my hands, I like to learn, and I have always loved aircraft.
Please enjoy your visit as you watch me struggle and hopefully prevail in assembling this kit, fabricating parts, and learning a whole lot along the way.
