Welcome to our RV-10 website! For all those asking why we would attempt something like this, let me try to explain.

I have always wanted my own airplane, even before I could fly. After researching certified aircraft, I realized that it wouldn?t be very fulfilling to spend the kind of money required, for the speed and handling that came in return.

I had known about homebuilt aviation, but like most people, I thought it was for quacks. Then I discovered the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and realized there were many sane and respectable people building and flying homebuilt airplanes. Through reading Sport Aviation, I discovered the Van?s series. They are wonderful handling and fast sport planes from one of the most respected airplane kit manufacturers out there.

About five years ago, I decided that I was going to build an RV-7, but the U.S. Army decided I was going to go to Germany for at least three years (I fly AH-64D Apaches to pay for the kit). Well, four years later, my family and I are back in the US and ready to build. I had read about the new four-seat RV-10 while I was in Germany, but initially thought it was just too big and too expensive. Then we went to an EAA fly-in in May (SWRFI) and when my wife sat in an RV-10, she fell in love with it. She has always supported my dream of building and flying my own airplane, but she finally put the condition that if I was going to spend all that money, I was definitely going to be able to take the whole family in it. Being the good wife obeyer that I am, I readily agreed. If she doesn?t mind spending an extra $30,000, neither do I.

So here we are, starting a true family adventure that will certainly be frustrating and expensive, yet fun and truly worthwhile. Come along!
