Welcome to our experimental aircraft Web site. Harland Espeset and I, George Stephenson began construction of our Van's Aircraft RV-7A in August of "06 at Wally Anderson's Synergy Air, Eugene, OR. We started this Project Description once already, but had a computer crash and lost everything! So as of today, Jan, 11, 2009, We are starting all over.
We nearly completed the empennage (tail section) at Synergy Air in 6 days! Not counting the fiberglass work, adding the tips to the vertical stab and horizontal stab which we completed back in Harland's garage/shop in Santa Fe, New Mexico. So it's been a slow two and a half years and we just finished the left wing and are progressing nicely on the right one. Nearly finished with the second fuel tank.
We both work in the motion picture industry as craftsmen and our time and money to work on our RV is limited and sporatic at best. But, we shall perservere no matter what, and one day we SHALL be flying our RV 7-A! George got his Private Pilot's licence on February 21st 2011! Harland is beginning his flight training so by the time we finish the plane, all should come together in due time.
We would like to thank Guy Prevost of Albuquerque, NM (who just completed and flew his RV8)for donating the great stanchions and jig supports for constructing our wings. (See the red 4x4 steel posts in photos). When we finish, like all good homebuilt brothers and sisters, we shall donate them in turn to the next deserving builders. They are better than Van's suggestion (floor to ceiling wood timbers) as they save space for garage door openings and ceiling storage space for airplane parts. Since we've completed the wings (2010) we don't need them any longer. Any takers out there?
Much time has passed since I've added to this site though we've been working continuously. We are in a real hangar now at Santa Fe (SAF) Airport! yeah! It took about a month to move from Harland's garage and fix up the totally empty hangar but it's working out well, both winter and summer.
